Lighting

Fixtures, Lamps and Ballasts

  • Lighting fixtures that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Compact fluorescent fixtures that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Table and floor lamps that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Compact fluorescent lamps that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Outdoor lights that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Tungsten halogen flood lamps when replacing incandescent flood lamps.
  • High pressure sodium or metal halide lamps when replacing mercury vapor lamps.
  • Exit signs that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.

Controls

  • Motion sensor controls in bathrooms, offices, conference rooms, kitchens and other public areas with intermittent use.
  • Spring-wound or switch timers in areas that are used infrequently such as mechanical rooms, unoccupied basements, and bathrooms.

Heating

Heating Systems

  • Gas or oil-fired boilers with an Annual Fuel Utilization Energy rating of 82% or more.
  • Gas or oil-fired boilers that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Natural gas furnaces with an Annual Fuel Utilization Energy rating of 90% or more.
  • Oil-fired furnaces with an Annual Fuel Utilization Energy rating of 85% or more.
  • Gas or oil-fired furnaces that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Split System Heat Pumps with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio of 12 or higher for units 5.4 tons or less or a Energy Efficiency Ratio of 10 or higher for units above 5.4 tons.
  • Water Source Heat Pumps with an Energy Efficiency Ration of 12 or more.
  • Geothermal heat pumps that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled

Distribution Systems

  • Pipe insulation.
  • Duct sealing (with mastic) and duct insulation
  • Ventilation fans that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled

  • Packaged Roof-Top Units with an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 10 or more and an economizer cycle.
  • Split System Air Conditioners/ Heat Pumps with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio of 12 or higher for units 5.4 tons or less or a Energy Efficiency Ratio of 10 or higher for units above 5.4 tons.
  • Central air conditioners that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Room air conditioners that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Ceiling fans that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Dehumidifiers that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.

Distribution Systems

  • Pipe insulation.
  • Duct sealing (with mastic) and duct insulation.

Building Air Sealing and Insulation

Air Sealing

  • Blower door and other techniques to identify sources of air infiltration in buildings.
  • Air sealing techniques to reduce air infiltration.

Insulation

  • Infrared camera and other techniques to identify thermal gaps in the building.
  • Insulation of the exterior surfaces of the building (roof, exterior walls, basement walls, crawl spaces, etc.).

Windows and Doors

Windows and Other Glazing 

  • Windows, skylights and other glazing with low-e glass and an overall U value of 0.40 or less and a maximum solar heat gain coefficient of 0.55.
  • Windows that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.

Exterior Doors

  • Exterior doors with a minimum U value of 0.2 or less.

Roofing

Plumbing Systems

Water Heating Equipment

  • Gas-fired tank-type water heaters with an Energy Factor of 0.62 or more.
  • Electric tank-type water heaters with an Energy Factor of 0.93 or more.
  • Oil-fired tank-type water heaters with an Energy Factor of 0.60 or more.
  • Gas-fired instantaneous water heater.
  • Water source heat pumps with an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 12 or more.

Water Using Equipment

  • Dishwashers that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Water coolers that are EPA ENERGY STAR labeled.
  • Showerheads with a flow rate no greater than 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM).
  • Sink faucets with a flow rate of 1.0 GPM or less.
  • Toilets using 1.6 gallons or less per flush (GPF) or less.
  • Urinals using 1.0 gallons or less per flush.
  • A properly sized water meter.
